About Invest Up
What Invest Up is
Invest Up is a free, browser-based multiplayer property trading board game. You roll the dice, buy cities, airports and utilities, build houses and hotels, collect rent and trade with the other players until only one of you is not bankrupt.
What makes it different is the market that grows between the players. You can buy stock in another player, lend to them by buying their bonds, and write contracts and rentals that pay out turn after turn. A contract can run for up to 10,000 turns, and a share of the rent a colour set earns can be sold like equity. All of it is played for virtual money only: nothing in the game is real money, and nothing here is investing advice.
What a game looks like
Early on, everyone is racing around a 40-space board buying what they land on. By the middle of the game, colour sets are split between players, and nobody can build until someone makes a deal. That is where the market comes in: instead of only swapping deeds, you might pay for a set with a contract, rent a city out for a few turns, or sell a share of a set's future rent to raise the cash for houses. Late in the game, players with cash to spare invest in rivals or lend to them, and a player in debt has to sell, mortgage or trade their way out before they can end the turn.
Games keep moving without anyone being rushed. A turn clock gives every player free thinking time and a reserve, the other players can hand out extra time, and a player who has disconnected keeps their seat for a short window before the table plays on.
Who it is for
- Friends who want a game night online without installing anything. One person creates a lobby, everyone else joins with the code, and the game runs in each player's browser. See playing with friends.
- Players who like negotiating. The best moves are often deals: a property for a stake, a rental for a contract, a loan at a rate you set yourself.
- Solo players. Fill the other seats with bots and play a full game on your own. Each bot personality buys, invests and trades in its own way. See playing against bots.
How to start in under a minute
- Open the main menu and type a display name.
- Press Create lobby. You are the host.
- Share the lobby's 8-character code with friends, or add bots to fill the seats.
- Set the house rules if you want to: starting cash (default $1,500), auctions, even building, the bond market, colour-set equity, the number of seats and whether the room is public or private.
- Once everyone else is ready, press start. A game needs at least 2 players and seats 2 to 6, bots included.
New to the rules? How to play walks through a turn, rent, building, jail, trading, stocks, bonds and bankruptcy.
No download, no account required
There is nothing to install. Invest Up runs in a web browser, and a guest can create or join a game with just a display name. An account is optional: signing in adds a friends list, so you can invite friends to a lobby or to watch a game in progress. What an account stores, and what the game keeps in your browser, is described in the privacy policy.
If your connection drops in the middle of a game, your seat is kept for 3 minutes, and coming back in time restores the whole game.
Platforms
Invest Up works in a web browser on desktop and on phones, so there is nothing to install on either.
